I’m pretty sure I’ve posted this before, but it bears repeating:
Imam Malik (ra) advised Imam Shafi, to make his actions flour and his knowledge salt. What did he mean? Bread is made from much flour, to which only a pinch of salt is added. Such should be the combination of knowledge and action within a scholar.

Sound advice not only for the scholar, but also for us poor faqirs, struggling on the path of the Beloved. I know for myself, if given a choice between an act of worship and reading a book of knowledge, 9 times out of 10, I’ll chose the book.
