SubhanAllah, w’Alhamdulilah, w’Allahu Akbar

sayin it just because I can, not because I’ve signed an anti-american slam book, nor because I’ve given up my identity.  Said because they are truly beautiful words meant to praise the Owner of the Most Beautiful Names.

Allah (swt) is Beautiful and loves Beauty

SubhanAllah, w’Alhamdulilah, w’Allahu Akbar

and again

SubhanAllah, w’Alhamdulilah, w’Allahu Akbar

How’s that for random arabic words in an english conversation?

SubhanAllah, w’Alhamdulilah, w’Allahu Akbar!

SubhanAllah, w’Alhamdulilah, w’Allahu Akbar!

SubhanAllah, w’Alhamdulilah, w’Allahu Akbar!

SubhanAllah, w’Alhamdulilah, w’Allahu Akbar!

SubhanAllah, w’Alhamdulilah, w’Allahu Akbar!

  1. Alhamdulillah! I remember I got slammed on a blog post for using “Alhamdulillah” and “Masha’Allah”, saying that what I was doing was essentially giving up my identity as an American and “giving in” to “Arab imperialism”, and why can’t I just say “Praise be to God” and “God has willed it”? I can, for sure, but I prefer to say “Alhamdulillah” and “Masha’Allah”; they’re Qur’anic words, after all, and I just like it better. So sue me. :P

  2. MashaAllah :) It can be a bit annoying when people don’t use them correctly, but I’m sure I didn’t use them in the right places when I first started using them either.

I don’t know about you, but even above and beyond being Qur’anic words, it just seems like there is so much meaning and feeling in the arabic that isn’t translated into the simple “Praise God!” If I had to translate it, it would be a whole sentence or 2, like all praise and thanks are due to Allah (swt), my Lord, and my Beloved!
